About Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs, is the oldest medicine in existence today. The theory is based on the principle of Vital Energy or Qi, Yin, Yang, Essence and Body Fluids. Yin and Yang energies are polar opposites. They work like an internal thermostat. Yin is considered to be cold and Yang is hot. These help to keep the body a normal temperature and full of energy. Health is maintained by keeping all these substances flowing smoothly throughout the body via channels or meridians. When a blockage occurs, due to trauma, stress, emotional turmoil or outside pathogens, it causes disharmony in the flow leading to pain and illness. Situated along these channels are little “pools” of energy called acupuncture points. Gentle stimulation of these points with small, sterile, disposable needles can dramatically balance and change the way the energy moves.

Chinese medicinal herbs work in a similar way. There are literally thousands of them consisting of minerals, shells, roots, barks, leaves and flowers that are made into a soup, or taken in pill form. These herbs remove stagnation, build energy and blood, eliminate toxins, such as in skin diseases, and harmonize the body.
